ATMOSPHERE - Furnaces utilizing atmospheres with controlled amounts of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen that will prevent oxidation and regulate carburization of steel.

OPEN AIR/FIRE - Furnaces open to air.

VACUUM - Furnaces utilizing vacuum, partial vacuum, or inert atmosphere, such as nitrogen, that will prevent surface contamination of metals.
